We are the place where you can live and find a special care… a personalized attention. Where what you would like to have it is expressly designed for you.

We love the experience of serving our guests, to attend them and to pamper them, to let them feel as if they would “stay at home”.

Today we would like to introduce you to a young professional, great colleague and an essential part of our Atelier’s team: BÁRBARA.

Where did it all start?

It all began when I was 21. I had finished a course in marketing and was working in a clothes shop which bored me to tears and I felt very demotivated. One day I bumped into a neighbour who owned a pizza restaurant; he asked me if I wanted to work for him and I accepted. I began to enjoy myself and as I was good at it, it was the beginning of my career in the bar and restaurant business.

Where is your favourite place on the island?

My favourite place on the island is where the Playa del Inglés meets Maspalomas. It’s an immaculately clean beach, with crystal-clear, calm waters, surrounded by dunes. I particularly like it during the week, when it’s virtually empty and you can relax and disconnect from the rest of the world. There’s nothing like looking around you and seeing only sun, sea and sand.

How do you like to spend your spare time?

In my free time, I like to have fun and laugh a lot. I go surfing, spend the day on the beach with the family, with friends or with a good book. I love dancing and eating. I travel whenever I can and my house is always open to friends and family. As well as all of that, I love the precious moments of solitude, and even more so if I have a good rum to enjoy. Ah, and of course sleeping!

How would you define yourself in three words?

It’s impossible to define myself with three words, it all depends on the moment and the mood. The first thing that comes into my head is that I always try to be optimistic and realistic. I have been distracted since I was a child and, although it’s four words, a bit overdramatic but I just had to mention it.

What are you most passionate about in your work?

This type of work has long been undervalued and I love demonstrating that it’s not just about serving drinks and collecting glasses. There’s so much more to it.  We are always learning, especially when we want to provide the perfect service. I have a great time and I am constantly meeting new people from all over the world. If you have a good team to work with, like we do in Atelier, you have great fun. I love that there is always a step further to go, there is no standing still and every time I reach a goal in my work, I always aim higher and bigger.

What’s your favourite cocktail?

I am very fond of one from the old menu, the “Dunes Flower”, a mixture of lychee juice, gin and homemade, rose-petal syrup. Aromatic from the start, with a fresh, slightly sweet, floral taste.

Any funny stories?

When I was training in my first job, I couldn’t manage the tray very well. I was clearing a table once and when the tray was full of empty bottles, I lost my balance and tipped them over a bald gentleman’s head. His whole family began to laugh and luckily, he did too. Thinking my boss would be annoyed, I went to look for him and found him hiding under the bar, in fits of laughter.

What do you consider the most important quality in someone?

A very important virtue for me is trust, trust in others and the self-confidence.

What’s your motto?

“Being humble allows you to accept the way you are. When you are aware of your abilities, you can make the most of them without being pretentious and when you know your weaknesses, you can improve them without being dragged down. Humility means you can be happy with yourself and improve the way you get on with those around you”.
